About

Mission

We are a club for and about artists in metro Detroit and throughout southeastern Michigan. As a group, we constantly strive to improve, evolve, and pay it forward by offering opportunities to our membership which will enhance their lives and their artistic careers.

Our long, storied history

“Spirit of the Forest,” by Lisa Richter.

The Palette & Brush Club has beginnings that go back to the depression era of 1934. A government agency offered art lessons in order to provide jobs for teachers. Our first group met at Redford High School for evening classes. They held two public shows in 1935. Bylaws and a constitution were adopted in 1936, followed by incorporation in 1949.

Now over 80 years old, the Palette and Brush Club includes members from all over metro Detroit. Two major exhibitions each year showcase members’ fine art at various locations, providing visibility to critics, gallery owners and interested audiences, as well as opportunities for sales and commission work. We donate funds to underwrite scholarships for promising art students at area colleges.
